Welcome
About Louise
Being an artist has shaped my being. There is no line between art and the rest of who I am. From an early age, I went easily and often into the immensity of my inner world. I call it my Soul Space where inspiration for artwork originates. Where I connect to intuition and where I seek answers, “Why am I here? How can I live to the best of my ability? What makes humans tick? What does truth feel like?”
As one of nineteen children, homeschooled in the redwoods of California in the 60’s, I was free to be me. Not that I would ever have told my siblings I communicated with animals, and sensed spirits of beings who existed beyond this earthly realm. In the 70’s, my family uprooted from California and moved to Canada, where I now choose to live.
What I do is practice. The daily practice of honing my skills so when inspiration lands, when an idea prods me to bring it to life, I have the skills to carry it out. The same with exploring mysticism. There is constant questioning and searching, and then putting into practice the insights gained. Life is a science lab, an artist studio, and a temple.

Destination Sanctuary
A few years ago, a creative project landed on my shoulders asking to be brought to life. But it didn’t come as a painting or a sculpture. It came as a book wanting to be written. I argued with creativity, “I’m not an author. Why me?” But creative ideas are very persistent. Eventually, I gave in, and started what is now on its way to becoming a graphic novel, called Destination Sanctuary.
It’s a story about a young man named Logan who goes on what he thinks is just a trek through the badlands with his younger brother Davy. Along the way he encounters Celia and a host of mystical things that make him question the status quo. This story is about how things change us, which allows us to change the world into something we want, rather than something we are powerless to affect.
The rough sketches laying out the timeline of the story are almost completed. So far I’ve created 500 and counting. Once those are done, they’ll be arranged in a rough page layout, adding, and subtracting as needed. Then it is on to finalizing the characters, selecting colour palettes for each one, working out how they look from different angles, etc. The actual illustrating will be created on Adobe Illustrator. I’ll be using a Wacom Tablet to render the artwork, and saving everything to an external hard drive, because illustrator files are huge.
Although I have a ton of art experience, this is my first graphic novel, so I’m learning as I go. I’m planning to do a series of live broadcasts about the project and posting on Facebook and Instagram. I’m happy to respond to questions about the project or general inquiries on different mediums and processes. I hope you’ll consider joining in, it just might inspire you to embark on a creative project of your own. You just never know.
